The Return of the Lonesome Coyote Patchwork Pulpit, and Sundry Other Tales from the Rainbow’s End is seventy minutes’ worth of hard won indie-roots gold chronicling the latest  exploits of expat Georgian singer songwriter Benton Roark and the Rollaway gang.   After the original New York-based Rollaway disbanded, Roark relocated to Vancouver along with vocalist Sarah Wolfman-Robichaud and assembled an eclectic team made up of some of the Emerald City’s best locals and transplants, including Jen Lewin and Adam Tryczynski of Stronger than Lions, Martin Reisle of Maria in the Shower, Brian Nesselroad of the Fringe Percussion Group, and Adam Jones of The Mackenzie Jones Big Band, among others. The new Rollaway recorded the vast majority of The Return… in their East Van rehearsal space home, infusing the mostly sober and often stormy material with warmth, grit, and conviviality. At times painfully honest and at others mysteriously mythical, the well-crafted poetry is set to five-part harmony, raucous guitars, ethereal pedal steel work, vintage Rhodes and Hammond colours, lush strings, and upright bass-driven, big-beat rhythm. The sound is what you might imagine given the history of the writer and producer (Roark), who also works in the avant-garde classical realm: a quasi-conceptual and highly-artistic blend of Southern gothic, ramshackle West-coast roots, and dark romanticism.

Rollaway B-sides - EP

The Rollaway B-sides is Benton Roark’s third independently released record, the first two being the solo album, The Unseen Exit Machine (2001), and Rollaway (2003) which was written and produced with band member Peden Young. The B-sides features the same cast as Rollaway – Peden Young, Seth Fruiterman, Moppa Elliott, Luke Fasano, and recorded by Ryan Pfleger – and was written and produced by Mr. Roark between 2004 and 2007.
This EP is a bluesy, hard-hitting, comic, political, and passionately sung rocket of five powerful songs that might just find themselves on your rotation more and more. Take a chance on an up and coming songwriter and be pleasantly rewarded with some new tunes to sing and some new things to think about.

Rollaway Self-titled - CD

The band Rollaway was created the moment Peden Young arrived in New York City. With the well worn "suitcase and guitar" in hand, he had come to join his long-time friend, Tim Roark, in the pursuit of a dream born years ago in the mountains of North Georgia. Growing up in Atlanta, these two spent their formative years playing music together in the comfort of Appalachian summers, entertaining friends at the fireside, by the piano, and occasionally squaring off in the basement - rival high school garage bands naturally. Carrying their guitars and musical ambition with them, friendship and music have been forged into rock 'n roll and a sound that offers rich glimpses of the South and the southern harmonies that inspired them. Drawing from a medley of influences, from country and folk to the darker, searching vocalism of alternative rock, Rollaway offers its listeners a chance to hear what evocative rock and roll should sound like. Yet, despite this shared background, Rollaway's songs are imbued with a sense of the personal and individual, and suggest a constant, evolving journey that draws upon distinct experiences.
